Kemnay Movie Nights / Kemnay Village Hall

Kemnay Movie Nights are excited to share our good news. We have received an award from the National Lottery Community Fund to help enable us to purchase a new projector for Kemnay Village Hall. Discussions are now underway to source and install a new projector.    

The National Lottery Community Fund, Scotland Chair, Kate Still said: “This November, the National Lottery celebrates its 30th birthday. For three decades, communities have come together, supporting one another and transforming lives through lottery funding — a truly inspiring achievement.

The Kemnay Movie Nights team and the Kemnay Village Hall committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Lottery Community Fund, National Lottery players – and all our loyal KMN supporters for their help throughout the 2023-2024 film night season – for helping to raise funds for the purchase and installation of a new projector.

We sincerely hope you will all continue to use KMN screenings to catch up with friends and relatives and share a movie or two with them. KMN is nothing without your support and enthusiasm. That includes all team members past and present as well.

Support your Local Library – a gothic pub-rock opera   

A love letter to libraries, this two-hander celebrates the written word and the power it gives us. Combining songs, sketches and poetry, Ruth and Keith (AKA Black Liver) bring you a laugh-out-loud show of sentimentality, silliness and satire. You’ll never look at your local library the same after this! Firelight Trio 

Firelight Trio is a mighty new group featuring Fatea instrumentalist of the Year 2023 Gavin Marwick (fiddle), groovily inventive accordionist/pianist Phil Alexander (Moishe’s Bagel), and Ruth Morris (Outlander, HBO) on the beautiful Swedish nyckelharpa. They play European music that is evocative, inventive, wide-ranging, and endlessly exciting – a rich tapestry of lively Swedish polskas and Scottish reels, lilting French waltzes, toe-tapping klezmer, and dazzling original tunes. Is that a Whip in your Hand?     

A comedy spoof. It’s ‘Indiana Jones’ meets ‘National Treasure’ meets ‘Lara Croft’. Featuring the usual mix of clues, maps, travel and tricky situations, it’s minimum props, maximum effect as our hero searches for treasure via Columbia and Greece, evading trouble at every turn!  Ticket details to follow.

Kemnay Movie Nights

Kemnay Movie nights returns on the last Friday of October, and runs every month (usually the last Friday) until March, keep your eyes and ears open for details or email bookings@kemnayhall.co.uk to join the emailing list.

Watch out for fantastic shows at Kemnay Village Hall by Kemnay Scouts on 14th, 15^th and 16^th November and Kemnay Panto, (oh no it isn`t!) on 29^th & 30^th November.  Ticket details available from the organisers.

A survey has been created to gather the views of the Community regarding the Community Asset Transfer.

If you don’t want to do an online survey, there will be paper copies available from the Co-op, Pharmacy, Collie Butchers, and the Library.

This is your chance to have a say on what happens to the hall and how it is run.

Surveys need to be completed by 23rd September. Completed copies should be put through the letterbox on the side entrance to the Hall.

As you may have read in recent editions of the newsletter, the Kemnay Village Hall Management Committee is currently investigating the process of taking the hall into community ownership via a Community Asset Transfer.  To investigate if this is feasible, we have enlisted the services of SKS Scotland ltd. to undertake a feasibility study.

The study they will be carrying will require community interaction.  There will be a community consultation which will consist of a questionnaire which will be available online and as paper copies.  We would like as many people to complete this as possible so that we can get an idea of what you want from your village hall.  To that end, we would like for local shops and businesses to carry copies of the forms so that you can pick one up during your day-to-day activities.

As part of the community consultation SKS Scotland Ltd have been provided with the details of community stakeholders.  These are the businesses who have a premises in the village, and community groups and organisations.  SKS will be in touch with these to engage them in dialogue about the community asset transfer.  If there are any sole trader or small limited company business run from homes who would be willing to participate in this consultation, please email kemnayhall@outlook.com and we will pass your details onto SKS Scotland Ltd.

We would like to reassure members of the community that the hall will not be closing if the Community Asset Transfer does not go forward, the hall committee is committed to keeping our space open, and available to the community.
